As several parts of the country grapple with insecurity and other forms of criminal vices, the Delta State Government has taken strategic steps in guarantying the safety of lives and properties of its citizens.
This initiative was made known by the Delta State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Chief. Daniel Odinigwe, as the ministry entered into a partnership with key players in the tech industry to provide cutting-edge e-solutions to combat crime and reduce it to its barest minimal as well as increase the states internally generated revenue through an increase in job creation.
According to Odinigwe, the partnership with ZHEJIANG DAHUA TECHNOLOGY CO, LTD China, in collaboration with Off-Field Concept Ltd and First Rhema Solutions Limited, would provide a Smart City intelligence solution, which would counter criminal elements in the State, as obtained in other parts of the world.
Dahua Technology is a global leader and manufacture of intelligent surveillance and smart city systems, including intelligent traffic systems.
He added that the smart city intelligence solution is a step toward ensuring the administration’s promise to do MORE for Deltans when elected. He also added that the Ministry’s technical team would collaborate with their new partners in implementing the solution within the shortest possible time.
The Managing Director Off-Field Concept Limited, Mr Ugochukwu Ebu, said that the smart city solution which relies on technology when implemented can detect crimes, alert the appropriate authorities, provide solutions and invariably increase the economic growth of the state, as insecurity remains a major issue of investors and investment sustainability in the state. *Off-Field is the preeminent systems integration, smart home automation, and extra-low voltage (ELV) systems company in Nigeria.*

“One of the biggest benefits of smart cities is their ability to improve public safety with increased monitoring, through the use of sophisticated technologically aided surveillance. The first step would be the deployment of surveillance systems and censors around the state with a state of the art command center in Warri and Asaba.
The command centre which comprises of a data centre, computer-aided dispatch service and call centre, is capable of alerting the authorities in real-time, when it witnesses any threat or attack on the citizenry, as it has a Georgraphic Information System (GIS) mapping that informs the authorities as well as triangulates the position the call was made from. The command system does not only respond to security emergencies but also fire and health related emergencies. All stakeholders in the Fire services and Health sector will be integrated into the project to provide them with valuable information about the benefits of the project”, he explained.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Ogheneaga Ejiro, applauded the team for their presentation as he assured them that the ministry will continue working with them in all aspects as the benefits analyzed was enormous.
